No Stroke Left Behind
Workshop
In This Workshop, You'll Learn:
-1-
Organizing Value for Dramatic Impact
Learn how to simplify a complex scene into clear value groupings. We’ll focus on arranging darks, midtones, and lights to establish drama and clarity before any detail is added.
-2-
Building Structure with a Grisaille Foundation
Establish a strong value roadmap using a simple grisaille approach. This foundation supports the entire drawing and removes guesswork as the piece develops.
-3-
Working with a Limited Cool-Gray Palette
Use cool grays in Polychromos and Payne’s grays in Luminance to build depth, cohesion, and atmosphere through value rather than color complexity.
-4-
Letting the Paper Support the Drawing
Learn how light gray Pastelmat acts as a built-in midtone, helping bridge transitions between dark and light values. This approach supports structure, speeds up the process, and reduces unnecessary layering.
You’ll strengthen your fundamentals by focusing on dramatic value, structure, and restraint, while rendering both architectural forms and organic textures like trees and grass... all within the calm, intentional framework of No Stroke Left Behind.

Let’s embark on this creative journey together!
Struggling to create dramatic values without overworking your drawing?
You’re not alone. Scenes like this can feel overwhelming—large shapes, repeated structures, dark skies, and organic elements all competing for attention. Without a clear plan, values can flatten out, transitions get muddy, and the drawing loses its impact.
In this live workshop, we work through those challenges together in real time.
You learn how to simplify complex scenes into clear value groupings, establish strong structural alignment, and build atmosphere through controlled transitions. We focus on how large masses relate to one another, how darks and lights are prioritized, and how subtle shifts in value create mood, depth, and cohesion across the entire composition.
Everything is demonstrated and developed live, step by step, so you’re not just guessing.
You’re building confidence as the drawing takes shape.
Clarity. Structure. Results.
That’s No Stroke Left Behind!
-
Discover the Power of Dramatic Value and Atmosphere
In this workshop, we focus on how value—not color—creates impact. Working in a limited range of cool grays, you’ll learn how dark skies, quiet structures, and open ground work together to establish mood and visual weight. We explore how contrast, edge control, and simplified shapes create a sense of stillness and drama without relying on surface detail.
-
Build Confidence in Structure, Transitions, and Texture
Architectural scenes present a different kind of challenge. You’ll learn how to align repeated structures accurately, organize large value masses, and manage transitions between sky, buildings, trees, and grass. We’ll also address the balance between hard, structural edges and softer organic textures so the scene feels cohesive rather than fragmented.
-
