You + This Workshop Series =
Mastering the Art of Quiet Storytelling!
In each NSLB project, you’ll study the fine points of expressive lighting, careful value design, and atmospheric nuance.
These skills allow you to create portraits and scenes that feel immersive, inviting the viewer into the story.
Experience a Year of Creative Growth Through Story-Driven Portraits, Figures, and Atmospheric Scenes
- Build Depth, Realism, and Expression Across Four Distinct Projects
Each NSLB workshop in 2026 is designed to give you hands-on experience with a different artistic challenge — expressive portraits, figurative storytelling, mood-rich environments, and subtle atmospheric scenes. You’ll learn how to combine wax and oil-based colored pencils with optional mixed media to create believable texture, structure, and mood in every project. - Master Layering, Values, Structure, and Texture
Throughout the year, you’ll practice building strong value foundations, refining complex details, and balancing focal points for compositions that feel intentional and alive. You’ll explore surfaces like Pastelmat and others used throughout the NSLB series, each chosen to support the techniques and outcomes of its corresponding project. - Live, Real Time Instruction Over Four Seven-Week Workshops
Each project is taught live on Zoom with two-hour sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Across seven weeks per workshop — roughly 42 hours of guided instruction for each project — you’ll develop your skills in real time, get immediate feedback, and learn how to confidently apply these techniques to portraits, figures, and atmospheric scenes.
